Tirana has been the capital of Albania since 1920. The city began to grow at the beginning of the 18-th century. Today Tirana is not only the most populated city in Albania but also the most important political and economic center
The main attractions of the city are: The monument of National Hero Gjergj Kastrioti” Scanderbeg” in the square of the same name. Here one finds number of religious and historical buildings like the Mosque of Ethem Bej (1798 – 1823), the clock tower of 35 m in height built in 1830.

Worth visiting also are:

The Tabak Bridge, the monument “Mother Albania” at the cemetery of National Martyrs, Theater of Opera and Ballet, National Theatre, Gallery of Figurative arts, International Center for Culture, Palace of Congresses. There are cultural and museums in Tirana such as the National History Museum, Museum of Archeology, Museum of Natural Sciences
